Why Invincible season 1 is great

The Amazon original series invincible was released on the streaming service this year, March 18 which is an adaptation of Robert kirkman's Invincible comics of the same name. In my opinion, this show is incredible.

To give perspective I have never read the graphic novels of Invincible and I found out about this show through word of mouth.

This is my non-spoiler section of this blog. I will have a spoiler section down below so that you can be prepared. This show has the lore building of Avatar the Last Airbender, the awesomeness of Justice League Unlimited especially in its character interactions and the graphic violence of the Boys. For me, the point of judging any tv show or movie is based on storytelling and this show is great at that point as it shows tension between the characters, the family dynamic especially with Nolan Grayson and with his son Mark Grayson and with his mother.

The voice acting is phenomenal for this show and deserves all the praise it should get. Jk Simmons as Omni man is an insanely well-done voice cast and the material is great for him and so is Steven Yeun as Invincible. Sandra Oh provides the human element to both of these characters which makes them grounded. Gillian Jacobs is charming and as a character, she was the one that stood out and her character arc was great and I am interested to see in which direction her character goes in the future seasons. Walton Goggins as Cecil Stedman was great too in the role. Jason Mantzoukas as Rex Splode is the comic relief of this show but later on this show he becomes more responsible and matured for the New Guardians and Zachary Quinto as Robot gave some tear-jerking scenes in the later episodes and made him human which made me surprised since I was not a fan of his character initially as he felt like a generic robot character in the earlier episodes.

The first episode has a jaw-dropping ending with Omni Man killing the Guardians Of The Globe who are the wannabe Justice League and it is a bloody affair. The first episode has a colorful vibe that feels like a Saturday cartoon morning episode for kids which makes the twist so effective. Omni man is a deeply complex character with deeply layered motivations as in the first episode we see him as the perfect father, doting husband, and a hero who saves the world, and then we see him become a genocidal tyrant which is best shown in the final episode when he fights Mark. They both have opposing views on the world as Omni Man believes that humans are insects to them due to their power and longevity in life whereas mark is appealing to the human side of his father which is best shown when Mark saves the pilot only for Omni Man to kill him a few seconds later. Cecil Steadman is shown as a leader of the shadowy government as he is apparently sinister but it later turns out he is a decent and honorable man forced to do questionable acts for the greater good. This show uses the tropes of the comic book genre as its base and subverts it to give a richer story without completely undermining those tropes and belittling it.

THE credit should be given to the writers as the show has a serious tone throughout the season and it has its darker and gory moments but it balances with the comic moments as it is in any young Justice show but it does not overdo it which gives a seamless experience and makes it great. There are so many great antagonists like machine head, battle beast, DA Sinclair,Titan who is a sympathetic character which makes it so incredible. I highly recommend to check out this show.

So these are my thoughts on Invincible Season 1 and the good news is that it is confirmed for seasons 2 and 3 which makes me so excited for the show as I can't wait to see where the direction of the show goes.
