Three Days Of The Condor

Three Days Of The Condor is an interesting piece of fiction foreshadowing the themes and cynicism of a post-Watergate America. Its themes of espionage, and mystery are well backed in its spy thriller veneer. There's witty dialogue, espionage tropes, and dynamic spy action. The acting provides poignancy, terror, mystery, layers, vulnerability, charisma, and tension.

It has themes of government conspiracy, espionage, patriotism, loyalty, ruthlessness, manipulation, and cynicism. The fast pacing might not win viewers over but as a political thriller, it very well stands out as a cult classic.

Three Days Of The Condor uses tone, mystery, paranoia, and purpose to a heightened effect to elevate the tension of a political thriller. The imagery uses layered movement, moody cinematography, and bleak locations undergoing a dull grey color scheme. Its editing adds hidden cuts, match cuts, and quick momentum to potency alongside a short runtime. The sound offers echoes, muffles, strings, jazz, and funk evoking 70s America.

The music motifs are servicable but average and feel dated. The production design is immaculate with grey exterior locations, cramped and claustrophobic quarters. The cast are household names of which Robert Redford and Max Von Sydow are highlights. Hence Three Days Of The Condor is a brilliant political thriller overshadowing the Watergate era and Nixon's Presidency.
