Thoughts on Boys Season 2

Here is my Season 2 review.

The Boys Season 2 dials up everything which was appreciated in the groundbreaking first season and it goes ambitious in its themes, writing, vulgar, crass, and its over the top violence. Sure at times the quality does not match the ambition and some storylines aren't as impactful as they need to be but it feels like something unique in the overcrowded comic book genre and has a unique and distinct voice to it which makes season two a roaring success.

The second run of this show is filled with irreverent humor and violence which has become a part of the mythology of the show. One of the biggest high points is Stormfront played by Aya Cash who plays the new devious social media devil who vouches for the ideals of Nazi Germany. Her acting range is full-on display here with her first playing Homelander's rival to his partner to her uncanny romantic partner in Season 2.

Homelander and Stormfront's storyline is delicious to watch as it is perverted in nature which fits into the show's themes and it's a great material that allows them to bounce against each other. We see Hughie and Billy Butcher having conflict throughout the whole show which is well written and well-acted by the two actors despite the trope getting repetitive at times.

The action scenes are expertly created with amazing stunt work due to the efforts of Eric Kripke and its production team which make the action scenes giddy, violent, and nauseating. The balance between the show's over-the-top comedy and its seriousness was balanced meticulously without being in conflict with each other's show.

Overall the second run of this irreverent superhero Shakesperian drama with crassness is a flawed beast but it gets many things right despite getting a bit convoluted at times for its own good but it manages to capture the drama and violence which made season 1 some of the best works of comic book television.
