THE Boys Season 1 is Bonkers Bruh!

Non - spoiler review

My general thoughts over this show are that The Boys season 1 is good at subverting the comic book trope of other movies and tv shows based on comic books. It is a well-planned show from the very beginning as it goes from one plot point to another seamlessly. It brings a twisted idea of our comic-book heroes if they are brought into a real-world without being overbearingly preachy as that would have worked detrimental for the show and turn people off from it. It is a show that deconstructs the superhero genre properly but respecting it at the same time with heroes like Starlight. It shows how the media controls the narrative for our heroes and censor their wrongdoings and it is an interesting narrative.

Spoiler thoughts:

The characters of Homelander, A-train, Queen Maeve, The Deep who are a parody of their other comic-book counterparts in the DC universe and they are portrayed well by Anthony Starr, Dominique McElligott,Jessie T Usher and Chace Crawford. Anthony Starr portrays Homelander as a sadistic, twisted version of Superman and the strength of the show's writing is full in display when we learn about his backstory as a lab rat instead of having a normal childhood which makes you empathize with him. Jack Quaid as Hughie Cambell is the catalyst of this show as we see the superheroes and this universe through his perspective and learn about it. Jack Quaid also has a good chemistry with Erin Moriarty i.e Starlight. Their romantic moments are full of tenderness and care and it is a fresh breath of air in this dark and cynical world and it is a setup for a huge setback in their relationship when Starlight finds Hughie's secret about him being a vigilante.

The show also does a good job of subverting the tropes of the anti-hero trope and cleverly subverting it in a way that works in the boy's universe and for the show. We see the anti-hero billy butcher played excellently well by Karl Urban who is an interesting arc throughout the show and he is a character who is grey. Mother's Milk played b Laz Alonzo brings a certain charm and has a striking aura for the role.Karen Fukuhara as Kumiko is solid in the role too.

Closing thoughts:

Overall this show has bloody violence, degrees of nudity for it and at times it goes bonkers with it. I loved the direction throughout the whole show as it brought a lot of energy into it. The writing is really good as it has cleverly written dialogues and balances the graphic violence with heart-strung moments and that makes it one of the best shows in tv history.
