MATRIX REVOLUTIONS

#4 MATRIX REVOLUTIONS
Matrix Revolutions is an unsatisfying ending to the Matrix trilogy which misunderstands the themes of exploration and sci-fi elements of the original Matrix and brought down by bad direction from the Wachowskis by making it overtly philosophical and making a Terminator ripoff. It deconstructs everything about the original Matrix regarding Neo's character arc, themes of the New Matrix and Agent Smith. It has an abundance of wasted characters with the likes of the Merovingian and the rogue programs, Sati, Lock, Dozer and we don't get time for the development of characters from the original Matrix. It is a huge letdown as an ending of the trilogy.
MATRIX RESURRECTIONS

#3 MATRIX RESURRECTIONS
This movie is a meta-take on the whole Matrix trilogy and pokes fun at the cynical way of Hollywood making reboots and people wanting to see the same thing which i.e. the original Matrix and at times it comes across as a parody. The action scenes are terrible with quick cuts like a normal action movie. The acting is solid across the board but Yahya Abdul Mateen II and Jonathan Groff are terrible as the new Morpheus and new Agent Smith. It retcons so many important details from the previous Matrix movies which work to its pitfalls. Overall its another forgettable dumbed-down action movie of the base of a great sci-fi concept.
MATRIX RELOADED

#2 MATRIX RELOADED
This is a solid follow-up to the original Matrix despite its missteps and a nosedive in quality. The incam action scenes are better than the first Matrix despite the incredibly dated special effects. The central plotline is great with them finding the key to reach the source of the Matrix despite being lost in the philosophical ideas of the Matrix and the ins and outs. It is a mix of great ideas, bad ideas, pretentious ideas. The world is expanded in this movie but the execution of those ideas are questionable. Overall it is a mixed bag and could not rise to its full potential.
#1 THE MATRIX (1999)

A great sci-fi movie of all time fused with the genres of noir drama, sci-fi, action with philosophical undertones. It is a great balance of philosophical dichotomy and popcorn blockbuster. It has a mysterious feel to it which makes the audience eager to get answers to 2 questions, "Is Neo the One ? " and "What Is The Matrix ?". These 2 questions build worldbuilding and character drama throughout the movie and make u want to listen to philosophical and religious ideas. It is filled with groundbreaking special effects and groundbreaking John Wing Poo action scenes. Hugo Weaving is great as Agent Smith and he was the standout performance for me. Overall The Matrix is a celebration of heady sci-fi,great action with groundbreaking special effects with great action scenes.
Nice write up! I agree with your rankings, tho Resurrections and Revolutions are close for me.
