Book Of Boba Fett episode 5 is just a great hour of Star Wars ecstasy. Now to get my thoughts on the overall show I have been very disappointed by it. This show promised to give us a Godfather-Esque tale on Tatooine with Boba Fett and his criminal empire and the trials and tribulations of it. The show so far has relied on flashback storytelling and lazy direction with no vision so far. That being said, let's move on to this episode.
The episode starts off with Mando showing up to collect bounty and right from there the production design feels fresh and stunning. The action set piece between Mando and Kaba Baiz is incredible and it puts the action set pieces from the previous episodes to shame with its well-choreographed and dynamic fight scenes. The reason why this episode elevated for me is the inclusion of the Mando and he has become the Boba Fett of the generation and his character is much more well-written than Boba Fett.
After the fight scene, we are introduced to the Ringworld Glovis and it is a marvel to any fan whether it is general fans or hardcore fans. It looked spectacular. We see Mando after getting injured during the confrontation and after giving the bounty meet the Armorer and Paz Vizla and this is where it feels so interesting to me because we get to understand the lore for the Mandalorians. The highlight of the episode was the intricate worldbuilding for me. We got to learn so much about the Mandalorians and lore taken from Legends and from the comics.
This episode has a lot of subtle callbacks to previous movies especially the prequels when we see Mando using a "Naboo Starfighter" as his new spaceship and also we get a podrace-Esque moment which was exhilarating for me and beautifully shot and edited to detail by Bryce Dallas Howard and Co. We also get to see Amy Sedaris's character again and she has grown on me ever since she was introduced in the Mandalorian episode.
My main critic of this episode is the thin self-contained plotline of Mando building up his new starfighter and that slowed down the episode pacing for me and it felt awkward to me. The comedy was a bit off for me in the episode but this is just a minor gripe for me in this beautiful episode which felt like a beautiful continuation from Mando Season 2.
My favorite moment in the episode for me is the long tracking of Mando riding the N-1 Starfighter for the personal guard of the queen of Naboo it was well shot with beautiful composition and dynamic camerawork which shows the full scope of Tatooine and it felt epic on the scale with hands to fist moment.
Overall this episode was a great hour of Star Wars for me as it stands on its own. It was a great character study for Mando and how he is dealing after the events of Mandalorian season 2. We got great callbacks to the prequels and ties it into the larger Star Wars world.
