ree

A Nightmare On Elm Street is a groundbreaking slasher film in the horror subgenre. It defies stereotypes and cliches and reinvents it interestingly.

The story and its hook are cleverly told and executed satisfyingly. The usage of the dream realm for the nightmares is smart and succinct adding a new dynamic of threat never seen before. Freddy Kruger is an impactful villain due to Robert Englund's performance and the masterful use of horror and ambiance. The usage of the low-angle camera and the high-angle camera makes this point home.

The look of Freddy Kruger is iconic with great usage of practical effects of its time combined with stellar direction which makes Freddy a standout in the horror genre. Heather Langenkamp in a Nightmare On Elm Street is a standout and a great final girl. Heather brings a sense of vulnerability and strength to this role and makes her a worthy adversary to Freddy. John Saxon is easily the best actor here with a subtle and subdued performance.

The kills are well crafted and groundbreaking of its time with a mixture of practical effects which defined the slasher genre in the 80's and the storytelling complements too with its dreamy and gnarly take. It keeps u invested in these characters with tension and its tense final act is incredible.

Overall a Nightmare On Elm Street is a horror classic which will always endure the test of time with a great reinvention to the slasher genre with its iconic villain and great storytelling.
