JAWS

Jaws is a well-made horror movie disguised as a high-concept blockbuster. It integrates the primal terror of horror cinemas with sincere archetypal character arcs, likable characters, and interesting character dynamics. It's filled with high stakes, excruciating tension with the unseen monster. Its pitch-perfect acting offers authenticity, chemistry, humor, range, layers, and growth.

The well-made horror leads to well-baked tension, suspense, and terror. Its themes of overcoming fears, and bureaucratic corruption hinting at its cynicism towards institutions and the archetype outcast becoming a part of this world might feel simplistic but it's potent and effective.

Technically Jaws is a horror movie with blockbuster trappings on it. The cinematography uses framing, split diopter shots, natural lighting, and natural blocking. Its music establishes the mood, tone, and season. The cast aren't household names but are veterans who offer tremendous skill and play off each other's acting skills.

The editing offers pitch-perfect momentum, adequate pacing, dissolves, montages, and smash cuts. Its commitment to practical design with prosthetics gives the now iconic shark look and a lack of effects gives it a real-life tangibility. Overall Jaws is the perfect horror movie giving way to high-concept blockbusters and remains timeless.
